Semiconductor Giants are Investing in Dholera

Global chip manufacturing behemoths are placing significant bets on India. Foxconn and Vedanata partnered in September of last year to build a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Dholera, Gujarat, which is expected to start operating in 2024.

While around $19.5 billion will be invested in the Foxconn-Vedanta project, numerous other chipmaking goliaths from around the world are also considering setting up shop in India's backyard, putting the Make in India effort on an unparalleled global scale.

In order to determine whether establishing a facility in India is feasible, Taiwan's TSMC is now speaking with several governmental organisations. TSMC already has one of its largest offices outside of Taiwan in India in Bengaluru, Karnataka,  from where it provides support to its’ existing customers in Asia, Europe and North America and supports and encourages fabless companies in India in design and growth.

Ever since news N Chandrasekaran – chairman of the Tata group, announced that Tata Electronics (TEPL) will set up an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in India, there has a been a lot of speculation, according to which, TSMC and Tata may enter into a partnership.
