A Gujarat-based solar energy company, plans to invest Rs 5,400 crore to set up 4 gigawatts (GW) of solar module manufacturing capacity with backward integration, said its Director.

“We are looking at 4 GW of solar module capacity in the next three to four years, which will be supported by the backward integration of 3 GW of solar cells and 2 GW of ingot wafers,” said Thadani in an exclusive interaction with ETENERGY World

He said that the backward integration will serve the module facility only. In the further integration the capacity that will be sold in the market would be 4 GW of solar modules.

“The investment required for setting up the entire facility will be Rs 5,400 crore to be done in a phased manner in the next three years,” he added. The company is planning to set up the first 2 GW facility near Jaipur, Rajasthan and rest of the backward integration and all forward facilities at Dholea Gujrat

“We are setting up the first facility of 1 GW of solar modules near Jaipur in a village called Dudu as we have ample land there to set up the 2-GW facility. So ideally, the first 2 GW will be coming up near Jaipur, Rajasthan and rest of the backward integration and all forward facilities will be set up at Gujarat’s Dholera Green Field Smart City in the Dholera Industrial City Development Park,” said Thadani.

He added that this decision was made because of the availability of power, water, and all the world-class infrastructure facilities in Dholera.
