To kick off the Gujarat SemiConnect Conference 2024, officials from the governments of Gujarat and India, Taiwanese diplomats, and executives from US-based Micron and Tata Group convened at Gandhinagar's Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre on July 19. The state's local businesses were urged by the officials to broaden and diversify their product offerings in order to integrate into the developing semiconductor ecosystem.
Support from regional suppliers will be essential as Micron, Tata Electronics (TEPL) in partnership with PSMC, Taiwan, and CG Power in partnership with Renesas, Japan, aim to establish their factories in Sanand and Dholera. According to S Krishnan, secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Communications, "they will probably need about 300 distinct suppliers in the vicinity for one Tata electronics semiconductor fabrication facility to run successfully."
